Set out on an unforgettable journey to the impressive Ausangate, Peru’s fifth-highest peak, admired for its dramatic scenery and profound spiritual importance in Andean culture. Reaching 6,372 meters (20,945 feet), Ausangate is honored as an Apu, a sacred mountain believed to be a powerful guardian by local communities.
One of the region’s hidden gems is the Seven Lakes Trail, a beautiful hike that leads through a collection of high-altitude lagoons formed by glacial waters. Each lake displays intense shades of emerald, turquoise, and deep blue, standing out against the snowy summits and rugged mountain landscapes.
Throughout the route, you’ll be treated to incredible glacier views, encounter alpaca and vicuña herds, and unwind in natural hot springs at the end of the trek. The journey also offers meaningful interactions with traditional Quechua villages that continue to preserve their ancient customs and lifestyle.
This experience is ideal for hikers, nature enthusiasts, and travelers looking for an authentic, off-the-beaten-path adventure in the heart of the Peruvian Andes.
Why Take the 7 Lakes Of Ausangate Tour Full Day?
The tour begins early with a 4:30 a.m. pick-up from your accommodation in Cusco, followed by a private drive to the community of Pacchanta, located at the foot of the majestic Ausangate Mountain. Upon arrival, you’ll enjoy a traditional Andean breakfast made with local ingredients to fuel up for the day.
From Pacchanta, we start the hike to the famous 7 Lakes of Ausangate, a moderate trek through breathtaking high-Andean landscapes. Along the route, you’ll visit vividly colored lagoons such as Azulcocha, Otorongo, Pucacocha, Alqacocha, and Q’omercocha, each offering a unique view and energy. You’ll also have panoramic views of Ausangate Glacier and spot native wildlife like alpacas, llamas, and wild vicuñas.
After the hike, you’ll have the option to relax in the natural hot springs of Pacchanta, surrounded by stunning mountain views and pure air. A traditional lunch prepared by local community members will be served to wrap up the experience.
We then return to Cusco, arriving around 6:00 p.m., where the tour concludes in the Historic Center of Cusco — the perfect spot to enjoy dinner or an evening stroll after a day full of adventure.
