The 4-day Choquequirao Trek is truly a remarkable and unforgettable adventure, leading you to one of the largest archaeological sites ever built by the Incas—more than three times the size of Machu Picchu. Often referred to as the “Lost City” or the “Cradle of Gold,” Choquequirao remains a hidden masterpiece perched high above the Apurímac River canyon.
This challenging trek invites you to discover one of the Incas’ greatest architectural treasures while pushing both your physical endurance and mental strength. Ideal for travelers who thrive on outdoor adventure, appreciate pristine natural landscapes, and have a deep interest in ancient history, this journey offers a powerful and rewarding experience from start to finish.
Today we start the day picking you up from your hotel at 4:30 am, to travel for 3:30 hours to the starting point called Capuliyoc, where we will have breakfast overlooking the snowy padrioc, for sure you will be dazzled with the incredible views from here.
After breakfast we will descend by a downhill trail to Chiquisca where we will have lunch, during the hike we will have views of the Apurimac canyon and if we are lucky we will see the Andean condor.
After lunch we will continue hiking downhill for approximately 1 hour to Rosalina beach point, where you can also take a dip in the Apurimac river and refresh yourself, then we continue hiking for approximately 3 hours to Marampata, where we will spend the night in local cabins that have an excellent location for a panoramic view of the Apurimac canyon.
Today we will wake up with a cup of coffee or tea with a beautiful sunrise and a view of the Apurimac canyon, to get ready and have breakfast, remember that today will be the big day to visit Choquequirao one of the last refuges of the Incas also known as the Cradle of Gold.
After breakfast we will start the hike through a flat road and slopes that go up and down for approximately 2 hours to the archaeological center of Choquequirao where we will visit the Main Plaza, the Guardian’s House, the Andean Andean Andean Platforms, the Andean Platforms of Llamas, here you will have a chance to see the Andean condor of the 60%.
After exploring Choquequirao we will have lunch and return the same way we came to Marampata to our local cabins. In the evening we will have a delicious dinner prepared by our hosts.
Today will be a beautiful and relaxing day as we will only hike for 3 hours to our Chiquisca camp on the way back along the same path we came on day 1, so you can wake up a little later to start the hike.
At Chiquisca camp we will have plenty of time to explore the surroundings or rest. Remember that this place is an oasis, so make the most of it by exploring the surroundings.
In the afternoon we can also see the sugar cane plantations as this oasis is formed only by 3 families who are only dedicated to the planting of cane and our guide can show you how the cane juice is extracted and then drink it and also where the sugar cane is made.
Today we will wake up very early at approximately 4: 30 am to have breakfast and start the hike uphill before we get the sun, this way we will arrive fresh and with good energy at the end of the hike Capuliyoc, here we will have lunch and then board our bus back to Cusco, on the way we have the option to enter the hot springs of Conoc, here you can cool off with a dip and have a beautiful view of the landscape offered by this place, then return to Cusco, in Cusco we will finish from 3:30 to 4:00 pm.
